A private financial services company in Tunbridge Wells recently expanded into a neighbouring building. They wanted to turn the space—originally built for domestic use—into a smart, energy-efficient office that supports future growth.
GCL Building Technologies handled the full smart office retrofit. We upgraded the electrical and data systems to create a flexible, future-ready workspace.
The project faced several challenges:
We stripped the building back to bare concrete to prepare for new installations.
We converted the domestic space into commercial-grade office premises.
We installed energy-efficient lighting, power, and structured cabling.
We maintained business continuity and supported future expansion plans.
GCL designed a custom retrofit plan to meet the client’s needs.
First, we installed temporary 110v power and lighting to keep the site safe during the work.
Next, we fitted split-metered distribution boards to track energy use in detail.
Then, we set up power systems at high and low levels to support air conditioning and plant rooms.
Additionally, we installed floor trunking to house small power outlets and CAT6 data cabling on the ground floor.
Our lighting system used the Signify Interact Pro, which allows daylight harvesting and app control.
We also fitted dimmable LED lighting throughout the office for flexibility.
Moreover, custom lighting features matched the interior design requirements.
We connected a dedicated communications room to high-level wireless access points via structured CAT6 cabling.
Finally, we integrated an automatic changeover switch to connect UPS and generator power, protecting critical systems from outages.
