GCL delivered a full electrical upgrade to help a UK Data Centre achieve Tier III certification. This work improved system reliability, reduced risk, and ensured consistent service delivery.
To meet Tier III requirements, GCL had to:
Add a new mains power supply and transformer
Enable automatic switching between power sources
Replace worn or unreliable components
Limit any disruption to the client’s operations
Update all operating and maintenance guides
After speaking with the client, GCL designed a plan to replace the full power setup without affecting the live environment.
To begin, GCL installed a mobile generator system to ensure a steady supply of electricity. Then, step by step, the team transferred systems to the new equipment. This careful approach avoided downtime while improving resilience.
Throughout the project, GCL kept in close contact with the IT team, the Distribution Network Operator, and all subcontractors. Thanks to this teamwork, the work was finished on time and within budget.
Following the upgrade, the client saw clear improvements:
No disruption during the planned Easter weekend shutdown
All off-site systems continued to run smoothly
The site met the Electricity at Work Act 1989 requirements
